| It means you can make your own map into a sever if LAN is availabe (don't ask me what LAN is, I don't know). this only works when you are on and you might have to invite people to get them into your world.
I believe to do this you turn cheats on, then use the "/publish" command.

| Local Area Network - its what people had to do with PCs before the net was any good - so you'd connect all your PCs together in the same room and have a LAN party - was really good fun, but a huge pain in the bum lugging all your gear to someones house. | |

| Added Ender Chest.
Drops 8 obsidian when broken without Silk Touch. Has one inventory per player.
Added Chiseled Stone Bricks to survival mode. New slabs and stairs of the 3 new plank types.
Wood slabs behave as wood, not as stone.
Half-slabs can now be placed upside-down when pointing at the upper half of the side of a block. This does not work with stairs.
Redstone (including repeaters, torches, levers, and pressure plates), Torches and Rails can now be placed on slabs and stairs positioned upside down. Levers can now be attached to the bottom of a block.
Updated Pistons to make them less error-prone, thus they also appear to update slower. This also altered the way Pistons work, so you might have to adapt your repeater delays and similar.
Signs are stackable up to 16. Crafting them now gives 3 signs instead of 1 with the same recipe. Boats now drop the boat item when destroyed.
Gaining Experience from mining ore is different for each type of ore. (Mining Coal will give you the least amount while Diamond Ore & Emerald Ore will give the most amount of XP).
Commands in Singleplayer.[2] The /tp command now allows teleporting to specified coordinates. The syntax for this is /tp [target player] <x> <y> <z>. The other functionality of the /tp command is still there. New /seed command that displays the current world seed. Added /debug <start|stop> command.
There will also be an update on the acount system
Account System Update[36]
Not a game update (will not modify the game itself and will be applied regardless of the version you're playing). The possibility to change your username and the e-mail address that is associated with your account Global Mojang accounts are already available and can be merged with Minecraft, Scrolls and Cobalt accounts. Once the synchronization has been made, logging into Mojang games is made by using the e-mail address instead of the username. It could be possible that Mojang decide to update the account system simultaneously with the release of Minecraft 1.3, which is on August 1, 2012. They might also choose this moment to implement the long-awaited online synchronization of Achievements and Statistics.[37][38] In-game usernames will be changeable, making them apparently no more unique ; only Mojang accounts have a unique "ID". Currently being worked on by Mollstam. It is unknown how the username change feature will be adapted to server white- and blacklists. It is most probable that the transition to a Mojang account will become obligatory at some point.

| There was also an anouncment on the forums. I'll point out some of the stuff it said.
The 1.3 update has now officially received a target release date of August 1st, 2012!
Lots and lots of bug fixes and new features. Players who mainly play in multi-player on servers should enjoy a smoother and more stable experience, as this has been our focus of the development. We’ve looked over the network packets and added encryption to prevent session stealing. Dinnerbone has updated the chatting screen, to allow for easier editing and clickable links.

| Fixed Man-in-the-middle attack allowing hackers to log in as you when you visit their server Thats an important one.
However there is also this contradiction: Improved overall stability and performance Reduced CPU, RAM & bandwidth usage As Mojang already stated that the indroduction of LAN play to replace regular single player mode, is that there is a higher demand on the CPU and RAM usage.

| 1.3 version for the servers and plugin makers is dropping tomorrow - this means we should hopefully:
a) have bukkit update released to us in a short time after the 1.3 official release b) our plugin makers will have updated to 1.3 so everything will still function as normal (stargates, creeper damage etc)
As always, if you are a regular starmine player, dont update your Minecraft until the server has, as last time it took Bukkit I think 2 or 3 weeks to update, and in that time those who had updated early couldn't play with us on the server.

| there is going to be a block only placable by admin that can use commands when supplied with a redstone input. That's rigth use commands. With a push of a button will be possible to do many things, teleport, get items, spawn mobs, kill mobs, or any other command. This could also be a nice addition to severs allowing people to teleport around, just look pretty or any other use. | Modding API.[1][2][3] Will be called "plugins".[4] Added a "Work in progress" Block Will get a crafting recipe later Can be right-clicked to reveal a GUI Glows as bright as glowstone, via Build a 3x3 platform out of either iron, gold, diamond or emerald blocks underneath to activate it Build additional layers with increasing size under that to increase its reach Each layer unlocks a new level of effects and increases the block's range by 8 blocks Each separate layer has to consist of one material The minimum range is 16 blocks Players within the blocks' range will be given the selected effects every 4 seconds Changing a block's selection costs 1 emerald, diamond, gold ingot or iron ingot The best configuration of blocks requires 164 blocks Each block can only apply one effect at a time. If there are 4 complete layers of blocks, players can additionally choose between Regeneration or tier II of the previously chosen effect Unlocked effects for each layer of blocks: Speed and Haste Resistance and Jump Boost Strength Regeneration and tier II of the other chosen effect A block that can run singleplayer commands when triggered by redstone, intended for adventure maps No crafting recipe, only obtainable through /give[5][6] Use @p to address the nearest player, @a for all players (where applicable) and @r for a random player[7][8][9] Only OPs can place it in multiplayer[citation needed] Added a few commands for use with the redstone command block /difficulty to change game difficulty[10] Toggling Player versus Player[11] /spawnpoint to change spawnpoints[citation needed] Zombies infect villagers now[12] The villager is immediately turned into a zombie[13] On Normal difficulty, there is a 50% chance of infection and on Hard difficulty there is a 100% chance of infection[14] Infected baby villagers turn into baby zombies[15][16] Infected baby villagers are 50% faster, don't age and don't burn up in the sun[17][18] Added armor and weapon support for mobs[19][20] Skeletons and zombies now rarely carry and drop armor of all kinds, sometimes enchanted[21][22][23][24][25][26][27] Even baby zombies can wear armor[28][29][30] Zombies now sometimes carry and drop swords or axes of all kinds, sometimes enchanted[31] Skeletons now sometimes carry enchanted bows[32] But only on Normal and Hard difficulties, with higher chances on Hard[33] Zombies and Skeletons now only drop gear when they're wearing it[34] You can now toggle showing server addresses in the server list using the F1 key[35][36] Hiding is persistent[37] Possibly changing the surface block type of Superflat worlds.[15] Large oak trees now generate with sideways logs[38] Improved villages and villagers to make them more self-aware[39] You can now restore a desolate village or create a completely new village[40] Villagers can now like and dislike you[41] Villagers who dislike you will refuse to trade Villagers will dislike you more for killing their friends or allowing them to die Depending on how much villagers like you, they will start to offer you better trades[42] Trades may be made permanent again or last shorter/longer 1.4 has very interesting things. Work in progress block could be used for quite a few crafty ite gaining contraptions (it seems to work like in a pyramid shape. Also with more new stuff for NPCs you may actually be able to start making Your own NPC kingdom. Click on this link for information: http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Upcoming_features | |

| The work in progress block is also known as the Beacon block (it also could make cool skylights). The GUI for the Beacon Block outlines a pyramid shape. When the player crafts blocks of Diamond, Emerald, Gold or Iron and places them in a pyramid shape beneath the Beacon Block, it will emit a beam of light into the sky and can apply temporary buffs to the player once activated. The more levels a pyramid has, the more effects it can apply. There are currently 4 types of pyramids. Not counting the Beacon Block, the first pyramid requires 9 blocks, the second 34 blocks, the third 83 blocks, and the final arrangement 164 blocks. A Secondary Power is a power that can be added onto a primary power. The "Regeneration" power is always visible. Requirements / Effects The Beacon block requires that there be no solid blocks above it, and a sunlight level of 15 (it does not have to be day time). This does not apply to the pyramid itself. Effects will be applied to the Player while within a radius of the beacon, with larger pyramids giving larger areas-of-effect. The radius is approximately 16 blocks for the smallest pyramid, and 40 blocks for the largest pyramid. The radius does not take into account the player's y-coordinate, so for example a beacon at the height limit will apply its effects to players on the ground below it. Primary Powers The five primary powers are Speed, Haste, Resistance, Jump Boost, and Strength. One primary power must be selected to activate the beacon. Secondary Powers The only purely secondary power is Regeneration. Secondary powers also provide level II variations of primary powers when selecting that primary power. When selecting the level II variant, regeneration is no longer provided by the beacon. Activation The beacon provides no powers by default. To activate it, place either an Iron Ingot, a Gold Ingot, an Emerald or a Diamond into the GUI slot. You can set the power by clicking on the top window: clicking on an effect will activate it. The item will be consumed and the beacon begin providing the power to nearby players when "Done" is clicked. Note: To set a beacon to a different power, another item must be consumed. block picture: Working pictures: | |
