Creation of the World: Part 1

Before there was life, there was magic. Magic thick and wild and free, strong enough to be seen even to the basest of creatures, and as far as the eye could see. It was a constant flow of dim light and soft shadow, and it was called the All. Time and space had yet to be created, and good and evil had no meaning in this place beyond comprehension. There was none to use and abuse the magic, nor were there any to take it and form it into something better.

But as all things do, the All started to change. Light bonded with light, and soon, formed a mighty river cutting through the remainder of the darkness, which formed steep banks to either side. With that flow, Time came into being, and started the events that would soon lead to the creation of the earth as we know it.

Not content with it's current form, the Light started to change again, lifting from the soil of the Dark to flow into two bright orbs. Around these perfect spheres, a woman formed, the First Goddess. None know her name, and none will ever be given to her, for mortal men are not fit to affix a label to something of pure magic. With the land now barren of the Light's touch, it was left in utter darkness, all consuming, further than even Her eyes could see. With no other person to consult with, she felt utterly alone.

Time passed, and the Goddess shaped the land. Creating huge mountains and deep valleys, she changed the surface of what was once the dark half of the All, but still found no solstice.

So taking two hands of dirt, she mixed them with the blood of her veins, and molded them into the shape of a man. Dark as the earth he was created from, with his first breath in, he became the First God. But with his first breath out over the land, thousands of black creatures sprang from the earth, wicked in mind as they were in form, for they were born without the light of the First Goddess.

Before she could do much, the creatures swarmed her, ripping from her chunks of her flesh, and half-ruining one of her two luminous eyes. They consumed what they stole, and became immune to the fiery glare of the remaining eye. But not all were lucky, and burned in the heat. The rest fled before the anger of the goddess, fearing for their lives, and hid at the ends of the earth, waiting for the Goddess to turn her gaze.

As for the God, he was not so lucky... The Anger of the Goddess burned him beyond recognition, and he soon died of his wounds before she could attempt to heal him. From his charred flesh, four Demons sprang; his hands became Kayne, his tongue Kelvarith, his mind Fathynei, and what remained of his bones, Pedierot. They fled the Goddess as their monstrous siblings had, the young deities bearing a strong fear of her wrath.

The Goddess was once more left alone. Now fully aware of how dangerous someone like her was, with the strength of half the All in her hands, she knew that she could not exist without putting everything she created in danger.

So in the fashion of the birth of the demons, she carved her body into pieces, breathing life into each one. With the last of her strength, she took her eyes, and set them far into the sky so her children would have the warmth of their mother's gaze always. Her good eye would become the Sun, and her half-blind eye would become the Moon, rising and setting in order to provide light to the world.

These eight pieces, these eight Gods and Goddesses created from the flesh of the First Goddess, are the deities we know today.
