In 1.4.3, the "Where are we now" disc was added. Apart from that, just bugfixes and minor changes.

1.4.4[1]
Baby mobs are spawnable by right-clicking a mob with a corresponding mob egg
Added /enchant command to give specific enchants
Squids now die on land after a few seconds
When in creative, flying through cobwebs does not slow you down, but walking through them in creative will.
Bug fixes: [Expand]

1.5
Rendering engine rewrite. Current engine has some bugs.
Support for high resolution texture packs[3]
The geometry of individual textures can differ
Much faster overall rendering, thus higher FPS.[4][5]
Includes the lighting fixes first introduced in snapshots 12w39a/b (during 1.4 development)
The features were:
Support for fancy lighting control[6]
Support for more realistic lighting, such as active furnaces only giving off light from their front surface[7][8]
Redstone repeater lock improvements[citation needed]
Some redstone bug fixes[9][10]

1.5

redstone
The BF3 Graphics engine will get in the game. (Yam Did it again)
More predictable and consistent behavior
The functionality of BUDs will be affected
Most of the timings of redstone contraptions will change
Overall redstone will be more like analog signals
Redstone signal strength will matter (for some blocks)
Capacitor block
Only outputs a signal if the input has a specific strength
Configurable like a repeater
Perhaps a revised form of the Allocator
Used to suck up items into a container/transport items between container
Weighted pressure plates
Outputs a signal with a strength corresponding to the weight of the entity (e.g. storage minecarts) sitting on the pressure plate/detector rail
Perhaps a Daylight Detector
Outputs a signal with a strength corresponding to the intensity of the sunlight
Redstone repeater lock improvements[citation needed]
Some Redstone bugfixes[2][3]
Perhaps a new ore for crafting the new redstone devices
Will most likely be available only in the Nether, encouraging exploration of the dimension

Minecarts

New ways of transporting items
Using minecarts similarly to Railcraft systems
New uses for storage minecarts
Filling and emptying storage minecarts
Specific rails to empty them
Linking minecarts together (driven by furnace minecarts)
Rails do unload mobs and perhaps players when reached
New engine

Current engine has some bugs
Will require a higher OpenGL feature-set
Will include some sort of fallback for older hardware
Support for high resolution texture packs[4]
The geometry of individual textures can differ
No support for HD skins
Much faster overall rendering, thus higher FPS.[5][6]
Includes a less intensive variation of the lighting fixes first introduced in snapshots 12w39a/b (during 1.4 development)
The features were:
Support for fancy lighting control[7]
Support for more realistic lighting, such as active furnaces only giving off light from their front surface[8][9]
other

No new mobs
Perhaps fireworks for New Year's Eve
Will be a safe explosion
Perhaps a method of enchanting equipment with paper
The player would enchant the paper, then use an anvil to combine it with equipment
The anvil cost to do this would be very high
Possibility of Ghast Fireballs' sizes to be edited via third party programs[10]
Perhaps new netherbrick slabs
Possibility to set waypoints
Perhaps an updated PVP/Combat system.

Plugin API Update[1]

Players will be able to download mods from the game client itself
It aims to make Plugins/Mods easier to install and less prone to destroy your game
The Minecraft website will be revamped, helping to bring the most interesting community plugins and custom maps to the surface
Easier to add and animate models
There will be official community resources for modders
Changing the way the game stores data regarding its many materials and items
Support for ingame persistent servers
So we’ll integrate our own server provider in the game. Our hosting service will probably be too simple for the hardcore who buy servers now; we’ll aim for servers with eight-to-ten people max, says Jeb
An in game tutorial{cn}

Planned for January 2013

I really don't think the lighting from Frostbite 2 will be put into Minecraft. The Wiki can be wrong..

Quote from Mojang:

“What’s this? This doesn’t sound like a redstone update at all!”, you say. “Indeed,” we say. Thing is, we* suddenly decided we wanted to make sure that you have fireworks for New Year’s Eve, so we’re working in several parallel branches of the code now. One is for the 1.5 “Redstone Update,” and one is now for a 1.4.6 patch update. This update will be out before Christmas, and 1.5 will wait until January (or possibly February).

Nesw for the new snapshot:

Redstones circuits are more consistent, and pistons should be more stable
Added the Redstone Comparator
Added the Daylight Sensor block
Added a Hopper block (still work in progress)
Places and takes out items in Hoppers, Chests, Furnaces, Chest Minecart, Dispencers, and Brewing Stands. Still W.I.P.
Added a Trapped Chest that activates redstone
Gives out a signal depending on the amount of players looking inside. 1 person = 1 signal, 2 people = 2, etc.
Crafted with a Chest and a Tripwire Hook.
Large Trapped Chests can be staggered with Large Chests to allow more compact storage.
Texture is slightly different than a normal chest.
Added Weighted Pressure Plates that detects item stacks
Added Block of Redstone (works as a pushable redstone torch)
Added a new Nether Quartz Ore to the Nether
Drops Nether Quartz
Added a Nether Brick (item) for crafting Nether Brick blocks
Obtained by smelting Netherrack
Crafting recipe is 2x2 Nether Bricks.
Inventory changes
Holding down the left and right mouse buttons and dragging when holding an item now splits the items across the boxes you dragged over. Left button splits them equally across the boxes and leaves the remainder in your hand. Right mouse button drops them one by one as you drag.
Double-clicking an item stacks as much of that item in your inventory as possible (up to a full stack) and picks it up without stacking any other loose stacks together.
Double-shift-clicking an item in a chest moves all of that item into your inventory neatly stacked into as few stacks as possible. The opposite is also true, moving all the items to the chest in as few stacks as possible.

The comparator:

The Hopper:

The hopper can be used to store items that fall into it. Possibly very useful for non exp mob farms.

The Trapped Chest:

It ourputs a redstone signal when opened. If you look closely around the latch you can see a colour difference.

The Weighted Pressure Plate:

They put out different strengths of signals depending on how many items or mobs are on the pressure plate. The gold one requires less items than the iron one.

The Redstone Block:

It gives out a signal like redstone torches but cannot be turned off. It is movable by pistons.

The Nether Quartz:

It is a crafting ingredient for some of the new redstone devices.

The Daylight sensor:

It gives out redstone output. The signal strength depends on the amount of sunlight (With the comparator this could be used to make something happen only at one time every day (that seems like something Gorn Would make a puzzle out of (oh yes I did just triple bracket!))).

New Nether Brick Recipe:

You will be able to smelt nether bricks out of netherack.
